Worship: The Language of God’s People

The people of Peru were some of the most inspiring people I have ever been able to see and interact with throughout the entirety of my life. From people working all morning and afternoon to barely make it by for their families, to those who have jobs and are trying to slowly modernize their country and change the future for their children. One of the most binding similarities for all Peruvians was the sheer amount of faith and openness about their own faith that each and every individual Peruvian has no matter their age.

One of the very first things we got to do when we arrived in Cajamarca was to attend the 10th anniversary of a church. We witnessed everyone, both rich and poor, in their absolute Sunday best, even better than many Americans dress for church. Every man and boy were in some form of khakis and polos or a full on suit, and every woman and girl wore their most beautiful dresses or skirts. But the most beautiful thing of that day, was being able to worship the same God in a different language. To me personally, there is no more beautiful thing than that of worshipping in another language because it forces us to truly think about the words we sing to our Creator and it brings us all together as we understand that no matter where we are, where we come from, or who we are with, worship builds community.
